Evaluation is a valuable tool in improving the quality of program delivery and outcomes. This course will introduce you to the basics needed to undertake or manage evaluations.

About this course

In this course you will apply evaluative practice and thinking and learn how to analyse the assumptions and values underpinning program outcomes. This course will consist of 5 online modules that will be facilitated by our presenters through an interactive live video link, with each module of 60 minutes duration (5 hours in total).

Course outline

This course will enable you to gain the applied knowledge and skills needed to evaluate programs and projects. Led by an academic practitioner with extensive experience in designing and conducting evaluations, the live online sessions will allow for real-time interaction between the presenter and participants, encouraging deep discussion and analysis of the course content.

The following topics will be covered during the course:

  • The big picture and how to put it together
  • Clarifying your program outcomes
  • From outcomes to indicators
  • Developing a logic model
  • Developing key evaluation question.

Delivery Style

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. Course materials, presentation notes and readings will be made available to participants prior to the first session.

In-house training solutions

This course can also be customised and/or delivered in-house. We also offer in-depth courses that cover specific aspects of evaluation and evidence-based decision-making. 

Course learning objectives

At the completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Understand broad approaches and frameworks for evaluation
  • Understand the major elements that go into an evaluation plan
  • Articulate clear program outcomes and select indicators to measure them
  • Understand different approaches to presenting program logics
  • Specify key evaluation questions and break them down into sub-questions.
