In this course, you will learn how to use creative and collaborative problem-solving strategies to develop place-based solutions. It will develop your analytical and design skills by focusing on movement systems and places.

 

About this course

During the course, you will visit an area and collaborate with other professionals to apply the NSW Movement and Place Framework – providing you with the foundation to recognise the problems and opportunities that manifest in an external environment.

By the end of this course, you will feel confident in applying the NSW Movement and Place Framework when collaborating with different stakeholders to design better places. You will have developed a critical understanding of both your own and different stakeholders’ roles as active agents in creating positive change through the application of the Framework.

  • Apply the NSW Movement and Place Framework processes consistently and appropriately in a street/road
  • Articulate the importance of integrating concepts of movement and place
  • Identify the factors underpinning the challenges and opportunities facing particular places
  • Work collaboratively in the creation of a vision, alternatives and design of a street / road incorporating the main elements comprising movement and places
  • Develop creative alternatives and solutions to enhance a movement area into a place
  • Communicate ideas effectively in a visual and verbal manner
  • Comprehend and develop a reflective understanding of one’s own perspective and role in applying the NSW Movement and Place Framework.

Course outline

In this one-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the practical application of the NSW Movement and Place framework. Topics to be covered on the day include:

  • Course Overview
  • Review Movement and Place (with reference to the NSW Government eLearning modules)
  • Analyse and understand Place and Movement
  • Site Visit: assess the framework in a real-life space

-  Develop a shared vision within the Movement and Place Framework

-  Develop options

-  Choose the preferred option.

Note: Participants should undertake the free NSW Government eLearning modules for Movement and Place prior to attending the workshop.

Prior to undertaking this training, participants should complete the free NSW Government eLearning modules. This will ensure a foundational understanding of the Movement and Place Framework on which this course is based.

Delivery style

This course will be delivered as an interactive workshop - consisting of an instructor led lecture, group and individual activities. During the course, you will visit a nearby space and assess it against the Movement and Place Framework. This training approach will allow you to work through concepts introduced by the presenter in an application-focused teaching environment.
