The topic of safeguarding has risen on the agendas of Australian sports over the past six years in response to independent reviews, the release of national and state-based principles, standards and legislations and the establishment of Sport Integrity Australia.

About this course

Sports are required to implement internal safeguarding capabilities and can do so through accessing safeguarding education. These measures need to be adaptable to specific roles, relevant across any sporting environment (grassroots to high performance) and contextualised within each individual sport.

The Safeguarding in Sport Course offers a series of introductory modules specifically designed to build a sporting organisation's safeguarding capacity to apply preventative measures and effective response strategies, aimed at prioritising the safety of children, young people and athletes in Australian sport.

Key benefits of this course

By the conclusion of this course, you should have:

  • A deeper understanding of safeguarding in sport and how it applies to different areas across an organisation
  • Sound knowledge of governance, legislation and policy obligations specifically relating to sport
  • The ability to identify key safeguarding risks and apply preventative strategies to mitigate these risks
  • Understanding of the importance of appropriate safeguarding responses and the skills and systems required to support them
  • The ability to map own organisational safeguarding needs and convert these into a draft plan with tangible actions
  • The ability to present this to the relevant people within organisations, to drive action and change.
